I have researched into the concept of integrating nature and design, connecting the elements of the environment and art to bring awareness of nature and how this can benefit humans greater than we think.

The concept of Biophilic Design came from E.O. Wilson in his 1984 book Biophilia. E.O. Wilson is a “renowned biologist and University Research Professor Emeritus at Harvard” (Terramai, n.d.).

With the research that I have carried out about Biophilic design, it shows that the look of greenery, plants, nature, natural lighting and pretty much anything to do with nature, "reduce stress, enhance creativity, provide inspiration, and create a sense of happiness, thus improving our well-being" (Scott, 2020). Biophilic design integrates nature into our built environment for mental and physical benefits as well as environmental benefits. With this section of my project, I would like to explore how to show my audience the beauty of Philippine nature can be, with their unique flora and fauna, as well as bringing attention to those critically endangered endemic flora that the Philippines have due to human destruction and collection. Using my own illustrations of these design aspects, making a repeat pattern of these types of flora or fauna can be a beautiful outcome, and putting this on my own merchandise such as: prints, bottles, beach towels and other types of travel merchandise. I want my designs to give the same impact that Biophilic Design and Biophilic Art delivers to their audience, however with the hidden meaning being that we need to be preserving our nature in the Philippines. This can be a beautiful method to not only get my audience questioning, bringing attention and embracing Philippine nature, but to show off my illustration techniques that I have been developing for the past few years.
